Early Life and Cricket Journey
Axar Patel was born and brought up in a middle-class family in Nadiad, Gujarat. His father, Rajesh Patel, was a small business owner and his mother, Priti Patel, was a homemaker. Axar’s interest in cricket started at a very young age. He started playing cricket at the age of seven and was quickly noticed by his coaches and selectors for his left-arm spin.
Axar was initially a batting all-rounder in his early cricketing career, but his coach, Kamlesh Thakar, advised him to focus on his bowling. Axar worked hard on his bowling skills and soon became one of the best spin bowlers in his age group.
Axar was selected to play for the Gujarat Under-16 team when he was just 14 years old. He made his debut for the Gujarat Under-19 team in the 2011-12 season and was quickly promoted to the Gujarat senior team for the 2012-13 season.
Domestic Cricket Career
Axar Patel made his first-class debut for Gujarat in the 2012-13 season of the Ranji Trophy. He had a successful debut, taking four wickets in the match. He played all eight matches in that season, taking 29 wickets at an average of 23.65.
Axar’s performances in the 2012-13 season earned him a place in the India A team for the tri-series against Australia A and South Africa A in 2013. He was also named in the India Red team for the Challenger Trophy in 2013.
In the 2013-14 season, Axar was appointed as the captain of the Gujarat Ranji Trophy team. He had a successful season, taking 24 wickets in six matches at an average of 20.45. His performances in the 2013-14 season earned him a place in the Indian squad for the 2014 Asia Cup.
International Cricket Debut
Axar Patel made his international debut for India in the 2014 Asia Cup. He played in all the matches in the tournament, taking six wickets at an average of 21.33. He was also included in the Indian squad for the 2014 ICC World Twenty20, but he did not get a chance to play in the tournament.
Axar’s breakthrough performance came in the 2015-16 season of the Indian Premier League (IPL), where he was playing for Kings XI Punjab. He took 17 wickets in 14 matches at an average of 23.41 and an economy rate of 7.24. His performances in the IPL earned him a place in the Indian squad for the 2016 ICC World Twenty20.
