Shaheen Shah Afridi is a left-arm fast bowler who represents Pakistan in international cricket. He was born on April 6, 2000, in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Pakistan. Shaheen Afridi comes from a family of cricketers. His father, Ayaz Khan Afridi, and four brothers, Riaz Afridi, Iftikhar Afridi, Mushtaq Afridi, and Shoaib Afridi, have all played cricket at different levels.
Shaheen Afridi started his cricketing journey at a young age. He used to play tape ball cricket in the streets of his village before he was spotted by a local coach. The coach recognized his talent and recommended him to join the Under-16 team of the Landi Kotal Cricket Academy. Shaheen Afridi soon made his way to the Under-16 regional team and later represented the Under-19 team of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
In 2017, Shaheen Afridi made his debut for the Pakistan A team in a four-day match against Sri Lanka A. He impressed everyone with his pace and accuracy and soon caught the attention of the Pakistan cricket selectors. He was included in the Pakistan Super League (PSL) draft for the 2018 season and was picked by the Lahore Qalandars.
Shaheen Afridi made his international debut for Pakistan in a T20I against the West Indies in April 2018. He picked up two wickets in his very first over and finished with figures of 3 for 23 in his debut match. He continued to impress in the subsequent matches and was named the Player of the Series in his debut T20I series.
Shaheen Afridi made his ODI debut for Pakistan in September 2018 against Afghanistan. He picked up two wickets in his debut match and has since become a regular member of the Pakistan cricket team in both the T20I and ODI formats.
In the 2019 World Cup, Shaheen Afridi played a crucial role in Pakistan's campaign. He picked up 16 wickets in the tournament, which was the most by a Pakistan bowler in a single World Cup. His best performance came against New Zealand, where he picked up a five-wicket haul and helped Pakistan to a crucial victory.
Shaheen Afridi has been one of the standout performers in the Pakistan Super League as well. He finished as the second-highest wicket-taker in the 2020 season, picking up 13 wickets in nine matches. He was also the joint-highest wicket-taker in the 2021 season, picking up 18 wickets in 11 matches.
Apart from his bowling skills, Shaheen Afridi is also known for his fielding abilities. He has taken some spectacular catches in the outfield and is a valuable asset for any team in the field.
