Early Life and Career

Iyer's love for cricket began at an early age, as he watched his father and uncle play the game. He would often accompany his father to matches and would also watch games on TV. It was clear from a young age that he had a natural talent for the sport, and he began to play for his school team at the age of nine.

As he progressed through the ranks, Iyer continued to impress with his performances. In 2012, he was selected to play for the Mumbai Under-19 team and quickly established himself as one of the team's top batsmen. He made his first-class debut for Mumbai in the 2014-15 season and showed his potential with an unbeaten century in his second match.

Iyer's breakthrough season came in the 2015-16 Ranji Trophy, where he was the leading run-scorer for Mumbai. He scored 1,321 runs in 11 matches, including four centuries and seven half-centuries, at an average of 73.38. His performances helped Mumbai win the tournament for the 41st time.

IPL Career

Iyer's performances in the domestic circuit did not go unnoticed, and he was picked up by the Delhi Daredevils (now Delhi Capitals) in the Indian Premier League (IPL) auction in 2015. In his debut season, he played in six matches and scored 19 runs. He was retained by the team for the following season, but he played only two matches.

In the 2017 season, Iyer was given a more prominent role in the team, and he repaid the faith shown in him with some outstanding performances. He scored his maiden IPL century against the Gujarat Lions and finished the season with 338 runs in 12 matches at an average of 33.80.

The following season, Iyer was appointed as the captain of the Delhi Capitals, and he led the team to their first-ever IPL final. He scored 463 runs in 15 matches at an average of 30.86 and was instrumental in the team's success.

International Career

Iyer's consistent performances in the domestic circuit and the IPL earned him a call-up to the Indian team in 2017. He made his debut in a T20 match against New Zealand in November 2017 and scored 9 runs in his first innings.

Iyer's ODI debut came a year later, in December 2017, against Sri Lanka. He scored 88 runs in his second ODI innings against the same team, which was the highest score by an Indian batsman batting at number four on debut.

Since then, Iyer has been a regular member of the Indian limited-overs team, and his performances have been impressive. He has scored four ODI centuries and seven half-centuries, with a highest score of 103. In T20 cricket, he has scored 484 runs in 22 matches at an average of 27.11.

Iyer was born and brought up in Mumbai, and he continues to call the city his home. He comes from a family of cricketers, with his father, Santosh Iyer, having played club cricket in Mumbai.
